The Great Oaks of Maryland Initiative

The Great Oaks of Maryland seeks to provide, in the face of habitat loss, limited retail selection and other difficulties, tree choices for the public that preserve species diversity among woody plants and broaden and deepen plant-based food web interactions.

The name Great Oaks is a reference to the classic, diversity maximizing, but often overlook genus of woody plants that does so much to enhance our environment. But the Great Oaks is about much more than oaks, as we make available to the public many species from many genera.

See the links on the left to see what we do, why we do it, and how you can be involved. Those interested in native non-woodies of the Mid-Atlantic region are encouraged to visit the Chesapeake Natives website.
